Grant Opportunity

For those of you near a WalMart:

The Walmart Foundation is accepting applications through its Community Grant Program.
Through the annual program, grants of up to $2,500 will be awarded to  local nonprofit organization serving residents within the service area of individual Walmart stores. Grants will be awarded in the areas of hunger relief and healthy eating, sustainability, women's economic empowerment, and/or career opportunities.

To be eligible, an organization must be tax exempt s under sections 501(c)(3), (4), (6) or (19) of the Internal Revenue Code;  a recognized government entity: state, county, or city agency, including law enforcement or fire departments, that are requesting funds exclusively for public purposes;  a K-12 public or private school, charter school, community/junior college, state/private college or university; or a church or other faith-based organization with a proposed project that benefits the community at large.

Family Literacy Grant Opportunity

The Florida Humanities Council is currently accepting applications from public libraries interested in hosting PrimeTime Family Reading Time (www.floridahumanities.org/primetime).

PrimeTime is a free, six-week reading and discussion program that targets underserved families. Led by trained discussion leaders and storytellers, the program utilizes award-winning children’s books to relate literature to real-life and personal experiences.

Libraries may apply for up to $10,000 in funding to host three six-week programs over a two-year period. Funding up to $2,000 is also available for single six-week series at sites that have previously hosted PrimeTime.

Applications will be accepted through August 31 for programming to begin in 2016.
