Board Member Profile for Alicia Harris: As the Literacy Program Manager for Learn to Read Jacksonville and as a former volunteer tutor, I am so honored to serve on the VALF Board of Directors.

After graduating from UNF with a degree in English and Secondary Education four years ago, I began volunteering as a one-on-one tutor and computer lab instructor for Learn to Read while simultaneously working at Florida State College at Jacksonville under an Adult General Education and Family Literacy Grant. During my time as a volunteer tutor, I realized I wanted to make a full time commitment to Adult Literacy. I transitioned in to working part time for Learn to Read and the Center for Adult Learning in the Jacksonville Public Library, and then to my current position.

I always aim to spread the word about the importance of Adult Literacy, ABE, and ESL programs to the communtiy. During my time as a VALF Board member, I hope to promote, train, contribute, and continue learning to the best of my capacity.
