BraggBoard at the Jacksonville Public Library

It is important that volunteer literacy programs celebrate student achievements. Here is one way to do this.

The Jacksonville Public Library captures adult literacy student success on a BragBoardpictured here. (Yes, we know the pix is sideways!) The following are comments from the BragBoard.

Ahaleh, an English as a Second Language (ESL) student aspiring to become a stylist was accepted to “hair School” as she calls it, thanks to help from the library providing her a class to learn English.

Lyudmyla is a new citizen of the United States because of the library’s help.

Valentian, from Romania, and Thida, from Cambodia, are e-mailing each other in between classes which helps them practice their English all because of the literacy program.

One student recently began work at the GED Academy at Florida State Colleges after attending library classes for a year. She raised her reading skills three grade levels and has enough reading skills to attend the more advanced classes.

Share how you celebrate student progress in your literacy program.
